Hyakunin Isshu Index

The Hyakunin Isshu comprises of 100 waka poems selected by the eminent Fujiwara no Teika (who also composed poem 97). To help viewers find the poems they want, I have sorted the poems in three ways:

There’s also a very good list (mostly Japanese with some English) that can be consulted here.

Enjoy!

Indexing the English translation by topic could be helpful in retrieving a poem for purpose of quotation and boasting.

Am looking for a poem/haiku on the topic of’ The advancing New Year’.I once read it on a calendar. It was about this:

    ‘Yet another New Year approaching.

I have been witnessing fools repeating their mistakes for some times during the days of my long life.

    When will they ever learn?’

It quoted ? Issa ? or ?Isshu?

FunFact : In German ,Is so’ is an abbrevation for , Das ist so!’ meaning ‘ It is just like that( and has proven to remain that way, underlining the permanence or unquestionability of a fact/ circumstance/ position/ opinion…

    ‘Another New Year is approaching

Been witnessing people repeating mistakes for long

    Wondering: will they ever learn?

    Issho.

Now add a pint and you’re getting (to) my point.

Cheers and: Peaceful, happy, healthy whole year long 2025 2Uall!
