The Home Stretch!

Hi Everyone,

I have been actively updating the blog recently, and I realized that I’ve reached the 85% mark! That means there are about 15 poems left in the Hyakunin Isshu to post. I didn’t realize how far we’ve come this year.

I’m pretty excited, and I hope you are too. My goal is to complete the blog by the end of the year, but with the baby being born soon, who knows?

Behind the scenes though, I am working hard to complete the last poems, fix links, and find some cool things to share about the culture behind the famous anthology, Heian period culture, etc.

As always, thank you for reading. 🙂

  1. Wow, I didn’t notice it either! After completing the poems, will you still post other poems from the period? Would love to find out about the poetry in that period; it’s all really very lovely.

Thanks for the hard work, and keep posting!

  2. You know, that’s a good question. There’s actually few resources in English on other poetry of the time, though I am working on a post about the Tales of Ise (another translated work by Professor Mostow).

What I’d really like to do is read something the Kokin Wakashu which is the imperial anthology (and many poems here are selected from it), but my command of Japanese isn’t quite good enough to read that at an adult level. For the Hyakunin Isshu, I read a teenaged-level book on it, which is where I get some facts and trivia for this blog.

If such material existed for other anthologies, I could probably keep things going. 🙂
